Asoka, the sacred tree of Hindus and Buddhists, possesses varied medicinal uses.
Evergreen thick foliage and beautiful flowers make it an ideal ornamental tree for avenue planting and gardens.

The species is categorized as an endangered species;    hence barks of similar trees are often used as an adulterant or substitute instead of the genuine Ashoka bark in medicinal preparations.
