Ashoka is found almost throughout India upto 750 m above MSL in the evergreen forests, especially in Bengal and Kerala. It is also found in the Andaman Islands. The species is not seen in North-Western India.
Grows well in areas with well distributed rainfall and in slightly shady areas.
It requires soil rich in organic matter and moisture.

Ideal for mixed cropping in  homesteads.
